Stopping the Stakes

He focused all his attention on the shank that lay in the inmates hands. He had to get it without startling him, without letting him notice until it was too late. Almost impossible, but doable. He couldn't let him use it. Usually he'd give some leeway, he couldn't stop everything that happened in this place, but he had to stop it happening to the intended victim. That wasn't a victim he'd allow. He slipped closer to the ongoing crowd, all too aware of its rowdiness. It seemed he was the only one who'd noticed the sharp instrument. And without warning, his hand flashed too fast. He pelted into the crowd, crashing into victim as they both tumbled to the ground.
