Immersion

The pain that had accompanied her all morning was returning. The difference now was that she had something to do, a purpose to hold back on the moans, and continue to very much ignore it. Writing did that to you. Immersion. If done well, you could immerse yourself in books or writing, and truly forget about time and sound, switch off to anything that wasn't a current sentence or paragraph or page. It made it seem so productive, and so beautiful. Amazing.

Ryan's Thoughts

Hmm, if Innocence was 1st person...

The story I want to tell you has no definable start and not everything is solved at the end. The happiness is short lived, minimal. Don't get me wrong, I'm a happy bloke. You need to have that contrast in our careers. I loved my career. It made you feel as if you were doing something for humanity. You got to meet people. You got to make a difference. At least, that's what you keep telling yourself. I should begin with one of the two most important people I met on the job. It was also one of my most terrifying days as a father.

The one that says your child is missing.

18 June 2010

It was almost over. The cold and the warmth. The wind, the silence. The difference and the money. But that was okay. It was good while it lasted. One more good day and it would be perfect. He stared absently at the ceiling above him. It was quiet. Too quiet. Not a single voice inside his head, or out. It almost scared him. There was always someone talking. Usually yelling at him to do something right. But it did make a difference not to have someone whispering in your ear at every point. No voices. He tried to move, and felt a pain shoot through his body. What had happened? Where was he? He blinked a few times. Did he really care anymore? It didn't matter where he was. His eyes began to droop close again. Sleep seemed almost impossible to ignore. While there were no voices, there was no need to listen, to pay attention. And so he shut his eyes again, willing his remaining energy back beneath the surface.
