She turned to face him, at loss for words as she studied the look of concern over his face. “I don’t know,” her voice was barely a whisper as she leapt the fence and tore off her school shirt to reveal a pale green blouse. She stuffed the uniform in her bag and he noticed her trying to hide the tears that were now welling in her eyes. Accepting her need for a moment’s peace, he too pulled off his school shirt and switched it for the black one he’d placed in his bag that morning. When he looked up again, she had her arms folded closely against her chest, looking carefully away from him.
