I stood there panting, gun still held out in front of me, held quite steady for my shaking hands. I felt little arms wrap around my lower body and almost jumped out of my skin, but held it together. I looked down at her, heart still pounding quickly, as I tried to lessen the surprise, the rush. I quickly dropped the gun to my side, safely back into my gun belt, and wrapped an arm around the girl’s shoulder. I felt just as shocked as she. She was crying into my body. It made me feel only more uncomfortable. I looked away from the scene in front of me, trying to get away from the room altogether, but the girl kept me there. I bent slightly and picked her up into my arms, carrying her outside and away from this. She didn’t have to see, but I did. It was my job.
